In recognition of Poetry Month, and to celebrate our treasure trove of Orcas Island poets, Orcas Issues is pleased and honored to offer daily poetry during April.
POETS
— by JoEllen Moldoff —
Thus dance the lonely,
achingly beautiful poets—
feet tripping the light fantastic.
doing the soft-shoe,
tap dancing to their own rhythm.
From skyscrapers to archeological digs,
their pockets full of unopened dreams,
they break the rules.
On sheets, blank or wrinkled, lined, unlined
their art cannot be ignored
even if it can’t save the world.
Their eyes are headlights burning
into a dark forest.

A lovely paean to those who brave the empty page.
This poem is a perfect finale to Poetry Month, but why stop here? How
about making every month poetry month and keeping the poems flowing?
The poetry has been the highlight of Orcas Issues. All these poets on Orcas, wonderful!
