HER SMALL, PERFECT HAND IN MINE
— by Ed Wilson —
As we make our way together
down a flight of old stone steps,
my young daughter speaks softly.
I don’t mind, Baba,
that you and Mama are older
than other parents,
but sometimes I wish
you were younger.
Why is that? I ask,
and she answers,
So you could be
my Mama and Baba
longer.
No more words are needed
as we walk on together,
her small, perfect hand in mine.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful and poignant poem, Ed!
Ed, Your poetry is always so evocative. This poem is beautiful — both gentle and full. Thanks for sharing it. Rachel
Oh, Ed…
As always, Ed, so much power in so few words.
This is one of my favorite Ed Wilson poems!
Stunning. Quietly deeply moving. Thank you, Ed. Reading your poems is always a privilege.
