— from Jill McCabe Johnson for Artsmith —
Each year Artsmith awards Artist Residency Fellowships of time and space in the San Juan Islands for artists, scholars, and writers to create new works. The 2019 residency will take place the week of January 4-11.
The deadline to apply for Artsmith’s 2019 Artist Residency fast approaches. Submit your application by May 31 to be considered for our interdisciplinary artist residency on Orcas Island the week of January 4-11, 2019. Up to five artists will be selected to have time and space (plus a $50 honorarium to help offset travel costs) to pursue their respective arts.
Up to five fellows will stay in individual rooms with private baths as guests of Artsmith and Kangaroo House B&B, and have access to the inn’s amenities, including wireless Internet and garden hot tub. Artists selected for the residency will also receive a $50 honorarium to help defray travel costs.
Being within walking distance of the beach, library, coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, and Darvill’s Bookstore, and only a few miles from Moran State Park and Turtleback Preserve, residents have no shortage of inspirational sustenance.
Provided meals include welcome hors d’oeuvres the night of arrival plus four dinners during the week of the residency. Fellows are responsible for all other meals. Due to health department regulations, we cannot give access to the B&B’s kitchen; however, a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and electric kettle are provided, along with glassware, dishes, and utensils.
And best of all, we take care of the dishes.
