To celebrate art and creativity, this year’s Annual Student Art Exhibit will be on display at the Orcas Center from April 25 – May 19, 2025. This exhibit showcases artwork from A*OK classes (Kindergarten through 8th grade) and features select pieces from Orcas Island High School art students. Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, April 25, from 4:30 – 6:00 PM in the Madrona Room at the Orcas Center. This special evening will highlight the artistic achievements of public school students and provide an opportunity to hear directly from the Orcas Island High School artists.
This year’s A*OK projects include Chinese New Year Snakes, Día de los Muertos Skulls & Spooky Cats, Snowy Owls & Winter Landscapes, Cardboard Self-Portraits, Agamographs, Geometric & Organic Shape Collages, and a special Middle School Guest Artist Series of work featuring printmaking, felting, charcoal, and portrait illustration.
For over a decade, Art for Orcas Kids has provided high-quality visual arts education through a partnership between Orcas Island Education Foundation and Orcas Island School District (OISD). A*OK Teaching Artists bring art into the Orcas Island Elementary, Orcas Island Montessori Public and the Orcas Island Middle School with the support of OISD Certified Teaching Staff.
A*OK receives support and funding from the Orcas Island Community Foundation (OICF), ArtsFund Community Accelerator, and ArtsWA (Washington State Arts Commission and National Endowment for the Arts), as well as through fundraising events and private donations. This Spring, we will be participating in the Orcas Island Community Foundation’s 13th Annual GiveOrcas Campaign from May 6 – May 15, 2025, at www.giveorcas.org. You can give to support inspiring Visual Arts lessons for Orcas Island Public School students in the 2025/26 school year.
