“Tales from Africa: Work inspired by African Animals” will be featured at Waterworks Gallery in Friday Harbor, from June 25 to July 23. Featured artists are Jaime Ellsworth – Oil Paintings, and Barbara Duzan- Beaded and Bronze sculpture,
Plus artists from Kenya:
- Elijah Ooko
- Peter Ngugi
- Timothy Peter Brooke
- John Kamicha
- Adele Dejak (jewelry)
There will an opening reception on Saturday, June 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gallery.
Jaime Ellsworth, another, self-taught artist resides full time on San Juan Island. Jaime’s work with the local animal shelter, Animal
Protection Society of Friday Harbor, where she recently served as the organization’s president. Jaime, renowned for her dog paintings, this
time translates elephants, zebras, cheetahs into paintings, allowing the viewer to experience the animals firsthand. The graphic line and color of the animals are evident in the oil paintings of Jaime Ellsworth.
” by Barbara Duzan, Bronze”]Barbara Duzan resides part-time on San Juan Island received her degree in Chemistry/Biology from Western Washington University. Barbara, largely a self-taught artist, started out as a painter. Enrolling in a sculpture class in 1999, Barbara found her voice as an artist.
Inspired by her travels to Africa, this cohesive body of work, features beaded works of birds and bronze sculpture of giraffe, elephants and impalas, will please the animal lover in all of us.
The featured artists from Kenya, Timothy Peter Brooke, Elijah Ooko, Peter Ngugi and John Kamicha portray the animals of Africa from the perspective as locals. Contemporary African jewelry by Adele Dejakwill be on display.
