— from Sharon Abreu —
Sharon Abreu is preparing to hit New York City with her one-woman show, The Climate Monologues, but first she’s performing at Random Howse in this fundraiser for her trip.
The show begins at 8:30 and runs 50 minutes. There is no cover charge. Donations will help support Abreu’s trip to New York and other expenses related to performing in the United Solo Theatre Festival. All donations to Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education are tax-deductible.
Abreu created The Climate Monologues after meeting people whose stories she was inspired to share. These powerful true stories celebrate the human spirit while exploring solutions to the greatest challenge of our time. Abreu will perform this updated version of The Climate Monologues in the United Solo Theatre Festival on September 24.
In The Climate Monologues, heart, humor and inspiration resound through personal stories, accented by original songs, from passionate and every day people moved to action by climate change or fossil fuel energy in their lives and communities. Family, friendship and faith transform challenges into opportunities.
Abreu is an accomplished singer, songwriter and actor. She starred in the sold-out run of The Taffetas at Orcas Center, and was featured in two successful runs of The Vagina Monologues with the Actors Theater of Orcas Island. Abreu has used her voice and music for environmental education since 1993, and for climate change education since 2000. In 2002, she started the nonprofit Irthlingz Arts-Based Environmental Education with her partner, Michael Hurwicz.
Abreu received the “Spirit of Nature, Ecology & Society” Environmental Justice Award for her performance of The Climate Monologues at the City University of New York, and received a standing ovation at her performance in the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival in March of 2016.
Random Howse offers a Thai dinner menu from 5:00-8:30 pm. Drinks will be available for purchase throughout dinner and after 8:30 as well.
