||| FROM ROBERT WAUNCH for 42ND ANNUAL FLY-IN |||

The 42 nd Annual Fly-In will be held Friday through Sunday, August 2 – 4, at the Eastsound Airport. This year’s Fly-In is dedicated to honor Bill Anders, longtime Orcas Island resident and former Apollo 8 Astronaut. Apollo 8 was the first mission to circumnavigate the moon in 1968 and is also remembered for the iconic “Earthrise” photo taken by Bill. Commemorative attire and caps will be available for sale.

Pilots will fly in from all over the Pacific Northwest and Canada, filling the airfield with a wide variety of aircraft from home-built, antiques, general aviation, and warbirds.

Orcas Island Fire and Rescue volunteers will serve their famous Pancake Breakfast both Saturday and Sunday mornings at Fire Station 21 across the street from the airport. Breakfast is available from 7:00 – 11:00.

Johanna’s Catering food truck will be serving hamburgers, hot dogs and her special Salvadoran cuisine featuring Chicken Quesadillas, burritos, tacos, etc. on Friday from 12:00 to 7:00 and on Saturday from 10:00 to 7:00.

Plenty of parking will be available in the field east of the airport entry.

The Fly-In is a fundraiser for the local EAA Chapter, an international non-profit organization that promotes aviation related education and interests. The local Chapter sponsors the Young Eagles Program that provides free aircraft rides to young people ages 8 to 17 and hosts the annual Fly-In.

No fees will be charged for aircraft camping or tie-downs during the Fly-In.
