Each spring Canoe Island French camp puts on a Yoga Weekend to benefit our scholarship fund.  It has proven to be a fun weekend of mostly women and a few men — 15-20 people — who love the island, and like to relax, do yoga, eat great food, and drink wine — even around the pool. “This is the one program that I take an active part in and it always makes me feel sooo good,” says Canoe Island counselor Connie Jones.

Kris Lowe from Heart-Filled Yoga in Woodinville, WA, is a wonderful yoga instructor  who provides a program anyone can do – even people like me who only do organized yoga once a year.  Friday and Saturday nights we will have restful, candlelit yoga; Saturday and Sunday mornings we will do a more athletic hour.  Her website is www.heartfilledyoga.com .

The rest of the time retreat participants can kayak and sail, play tennis, walk around the island, relax and eat delicious meals prepared by “a real French cook from Provence this year who is excited about feeding us fine food and telling us about French cuisine and culture” says Jones.  “You can do as much or as little as you want.  Afternoon naps are good; so is a hour or two kayak paddle.”

The fee is $215 from Friday afternoon or evening until Sunday afternoon, with dinner Friday through lunch Sunday provided. Transportation from Orcas Island by private boat is included.

Lodging is in camp tipis which have four beds and electric light (bring  a sleeping bag and pillow), and no one else will be here except the yoga group.

Registration is available at www.canoeisland.org .

A portion of the fee is a tax-deductible donation of $55 that goes into the Canoe Island scholarship fund, as the camp is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization.

Each summer Canoe Island French Camp welcomes campers age 9-16 to enjoy the many activities of the camp while learning French language and culture.
