Ana/SJ’s – Kitsap Replaced Yakima
M/V Kitsap has replaced M/V Yakima on the Anacortes/San Juan Islands routes. Please be aware that the Kitsap is a smaller boat than the Yakima, so there may be traffic delays even after full service is restored.

UPDATE: 4 p.m. on Monday
The M/V Yakima remains out of service at this time because of a steering problem. For the remainder of today, WSF is trying to accommodate as many customers as possible who are sailing to and from Anacortes. The next interisland sailings are at 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., though they are likely to be late.
No new reservations are available on this route for the rest of the day, and existing reservation holders will be prioritized on a first come, first served basis. If you are unable to travel today because of cancellations or delays, a no-show fee will not be charged.
WSF is currently in the process of moving the M/V Kitsap to Anacortes so that regular service can resume on the Anacortes/San Juan Islands route starting with the 4:15 a.m. sailing departing Anacortes tomorrow (October 11). Please be aware that the Kitsap is a smaller boat than the Yakima, so there may be traffic delays tomorrow even after full service is restored.

UPDATE: 1 p.m. on Monday
The following inter-island sailings are cancelled as the Klahowya will make unscheduled sailings to alleviate traffic demands to and from Anacortes: 2:20 p.m. Friday Harbor; 3:10 p.m. Orcas; 3:25 p.m. Shaw; 3:45 p.m. Lopez.
The Klahowya will make an unscheduled 2:40 p.m. departure from Orcas to Anacortes, and will not make any inter-island stops. The vessel will then make an unscheduled sailing from Anacortes to Friday Harbor at approximately 3:55 p.m., and will resume it’s inter-island schedule with the 5:45 p.m. sailing from Friday Harbor.

The Yakima remains out of service due to necessary repairs. Maintenance crews have been dispatched to address and repair the problem. If unable to travel on October 10 due to the cancellations, a no-show fee will not be charged. Washington State Ferries recommends that passengers arrive early at their departing terminals or if your travel plans are flexible to alter your travel date. We apologize for this unforeseen disruption and appreciate your patience.
The following remaining sailings will be affected by the vessel out of service:
- Yakima’s Anacortes to Orcas 10:35 a.m.(stops at Lopez and Shaw) cancelled
- Yakima’s Orcas to Anacortes 12:25 p.m. (stops at Shaw) cancelled
- Samish’s 12:35 p.m. from Anacortes will stop at Lopez, Shaw, and Orcas instead of going to Lopez only. Vessel will make return sailings from Orcas, Shaw, and Lopez to Anacortes
- Samish’s Anacortes to Friday Harbor 2:40 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. FH to Anacortes cancelled due to previously mentioned unscheduled stops
- Yakima’s Anacortes to Friday Harbor 4:30 p.m. (stops at Lopez) cancelled
- Yakima’s Friday Harbor to Anacortes 6:25 p.m. (stops at Lopez) cancelled
Reservation holders will be prioritized on a first come first serve basis for all in service sailings. Updates will occur as conditions change.

Unscheduled (added) sailings: 3:00 p.m. Shaw to Lopez with (20 vehicle capacity); 3:40 p.m. Lopez to Anacortes (70 vehicle capacity); Anacortes to Friday Harbor 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The Yakima remains out of service for the remainder of the day after a mechanical problem.
The following remaining westbound sailings from Anacortes are cancelled:1:55pm to Orcas; 4:30pm and 8:25pm to Lopez and Friday Harbor.
The following remaining eastbound departures are cancelled: 12:25pm from Orcas; 12:40pm from Shaw; 3:15 pm from Orcas; 7:10pm from Lopez Island and 6:25pm and 10:05pm from Friday Harbor.

The following westbound sailings have been cancelled: 7:30 a.m. and 10:35 a.m. out of Anacortes, 11:25 a.m. out of Lopez, 8:20 a.m. arrival/departure and 11:50 a.m. arrival in Orcas, 9:00 a.m. arrival and 11:40 a.m. departure out of Shaw.
The following eastbound sailings have been cancelled: 8:45 a.m. out of Orcas, 9:00 a.m. out of Shaw and the 9:30 a.m. out of Lopez.
The rules will be relaxed for all existing Anacortes/San Juan/Sidney reservations for 10/9.
Due to the Yakima being out of service, the Samish 9:30 a.m. sailing from Anacortes to Friday Harbor will include a stop at Orcas. The Samish will also stop at Orcas on its way from Friday Harbor 11:05 a.m. sailing to Anacortes.
Where is the Evergreen State?
WSF should waive any and all reservation fees for the entire week, not simply the days that were interrupted.
For all of their pleas with us to plan ahead, there are now hundreds of us that DID plan ahead that are now scrambling to reassemble our schedules which we can’t do without maximum flexibility.
I have gone for two year periods with out having to go off island. But, when you gotta go you gotta go.
WSF has been a total failure.
Some how when there is a “event” on Orcas they have “extra” sailings
It appears that for many moons that the people who stay have to pay for the people who come to play.
The Evergreen State is up for auction. It would seem sensible to keep it for such emergencies.
