Entry building, elevated pedestrian connector open at Colman Dock
Our flagship terminal in Seattle has a new “front door.” The new entry building and elevated pedestrian walkway opened at Colman Dock today. They serve as a connection between Alaskan Way and the passenger facility that fully opened in November 2022. The city is leading construction on several other elements near our Seattle terminal, including a new Marion Street Pedestrian Bridge and changes to Alaskan Way. Work to replace our seismically vulnerable terminal at Colman Dock began in 2017.
High schoolers tour Colman Dock construction project
And just days before opening, 25 members of the Puget Sound Regional Council’s Summer Planning Academy got a sneak peek of the new elements at our Seattle terminal on Friday. The academy program covers topics related to urban planning. WSF terminal engineering employees took the students on a tour of our Colman Dock project construction activity. We love sharing the importance of transportation planning with our youth!

Transportation commission hearing on ferry fares Aug. 10
The Washington State Transportation Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Aug. 10, on its proposed ferry fare changes over the next two years. If approved, the new rates will take effect in October 2023 and October 2024. The in-person hearing will be at 9 a.m. at the Puget Sound Regional Council Board Room (1011 Western Ave., Suite 500, Seattle). The public can provide testimony before the commission votes on the proposal. Those interested in attending virtually can register on the commission’s website.
“Rant to me for being so careless and dropping my wallet a few evenings ago on the M/V Tokitae ferry. Rave to the Washington State Ferries crew for finding it and calling me early the next morning after they spotted it. Double rave for the abundant natural beauty of the Salish Sea and amazing sunset which clearly distracted me as I took a photo.”
