Customers taking a ferry as part of their Labor Day travel plans should be prepared for a busy holiday weekend. Close to 400,000 people are expected to travel between Thursday, Aug. 28, and Monday, Sept. 1. The biggest crowds are anticipated on Saturday, Aug. 30.
On Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, the following routes will have schedule changes:
- Anacortes/San Juan Islands, Edmonds/Kingston, Point Defiance/Tahlequah, and Port Townsend/Coupeville will have a few holiday schedule changes.
- Seattle/Bainbridge and Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth will run a Saturday schedule.
All other routes will operate regular schedules. Holiday sailings are marked on the schedules for each route.
Busy travel times
- Westbound (or onto an island) Thursday, Aug. 28, through Saturday, Aug. 30
- Eastbound (or off island) Saturday, Aug. 30, through Monday, Sept. 1
Prepare for long lines and extended wait times. To help with wait times, consider taking an early morning or late-night sailing or by using transit to walk or bike onto the ferry if possible.

To help navigate the crowds, customers are encouraged to download and use the WSDOT mobile app or visit the WSF website before heading to the terminal.
- View live terminal conditions and traffic cameras.
- Check for rider alerts that provide service updates by route.
- Monitor a real-time map for the location of each operating vessel.
- Make vehicle reservations for the Anacortes/San Juan Islands or Port Townsend/Coupeville route.
