A special invitation from the Orcas Island Writers Festival has been issued for “Coming to Our Senses: a Cooking Class and Dinner.”
The all-day event will take place on Saturday, May 9, culminating in a dinner at 6:30 p.m. prepared by Bill Patterson using locally grown food.
Earlier in the day, a tour of the Eastsound Farmers’ Market will take place from noon to 12:30 p.m., followed by a three-hour cooking class with Chef Patterson.
From 4:30 to 5:30 Rhonda Barbieri of La Campesina Project will lead the discussion, “From Farm to Table.”
The class, discussion and dinner will be held at the Emmanuel Church Parish Hall in Eastsound. The full slate of events cost $100, and the dinner alone costs $50. Reservations are requested by May 2 to 360-317-4383 or festivalgurus@orcasislandwriterfestival.com, PO Box 1726, Eastsound WA 98245.
The Orcas Writers Festival was initiated last year by Barbara Lewis and a group of local writers. This year the Festival will take place at Eastsound locales from Sept. 17 to 20.
The festival’s emphasis is on the craft of writing, and Lewis has configured the events this year to offer mix-and-match choices of morning poetry and prose writing, afternoon classes and evening readings by award-winning instructors and presenters.
Writers Matthew Goodman, Ellen Lesser and Diane Lefer return from last year, and new authors presenting at this year’s Festival will be Jody Gladding and Nance Van Winkel.
