The August meeting of Writer’s Roundtable will be held, Saturday, August 15 from 1-3 p.m. at the Library.
The August date has been changed to the third Saturday, Aug. 15, so as not to conflict with the Library Fair on Aug. 8.
The topic, facilitated by Jennifer Brennock, will be “Pregnant Pause: writing that is stewing in stillness between two significant happenings.”
Using a moment of stillness can allow the spilling of a secret, creating the opportunity for the storyteller to see something old in a new way. A lot of interesting things emerge if we allow the momentum to pause, allow the dough to rise, says Roundtable Coordinator JoEllen Moldoff.
Brennock. is a graduate student completing her M.F.A. in Creative Writing at Goddard College. She is the Critical Commentary Editor of the Pitkin Review literary journal.
Brennock moved to Orcas Island in January, and says she has been trying to grow accustomed to serenity!
Moldoff says, “Jennifer’s presentation will be a nice complement to Jill Johnson’s topic in June, ‘Comings and Goings,’ since we will have an opportunity to explore what happens between a departure, and a coming home to a new realization.
“Jennifer will draw from Jhumpa Lahiri’s “A Temporary Matter” in Interpreter of Maladies, and other sources, and will offer a fun, energizing creative writing exercise. All are welcome!”
