— from John van Lund —
Work is progressing on the abutments at each end of the bridge.
Construction crews will work within the cofferdam on the west side to construct the west abutment, which involves forming the abutment footing, installing rebar for the footing, placing rebar in structural piles, and pouring concrete into the hollow piles.
An abutment is the substructure at the ends of a bridge span upon which the bridge’s superstructure rests. On the east side, crews will drive the piles for the cofferdam and excavate the inside of the cofferdam for construction of the east abutment.
The contractor reduced the thickness of the abutment seal resulting in a time and cost savings.
Thank you for your patience. Please drive safely.
