Saturday, March 10, 5 – 9 p.m., Rosario Beach House

— from Rachel Newcombe —

We have something for you…

What’s that?”

You know that new Orcas Island arts organization, the one formed last year? The young upstart that put on two nights of spectacular sold-out dinner theater, starring highly acclaimed writer-director-actor-singer Sara Porkalob? Remember how upset you were when your friends told you what you’d missed? Well, not to worry. We have another awesome night in store for you, and it’s coming very soon.

On Saturday evening, March 10, Woman in the Woods Productions presents its first annual fundraiser extravaganza: “…And All that Jazz.” Here’s what we have planned for you at the lovely Rosario Beach House: an evening of superb music, a delectable meal, fine wines, and both silent and live auctions.

And just who will be playing ‘all that jazz?’”

Hold on to your seats: our own community treasure Martin Lund joined by the inimitable Moqui Lund, coming to us from Los Angeles, plus Oliver Groenewald and his internationally renowned NewNet Band. You’ve likely heard all of these fine musicians at Orcas Center during Martin’s annual Jazz Festival.

Combine that with delicious omnivore or vegan/gluten-free dining by chef extraordinaire, Christina Orchid, and you’ve got the makings of a truly special evening.

The cost? Seventy-five bucks. When’s the last time you’ve paid so little for so much?

What’s more, your attendance and participation will ensure top-quality future WIWP programming for the entire community to enjoy.

Such as?”

Such as the extraordinary Marc Bamuthi Joseph and Daniel Bernard Roumain. In fact, we are thrilled to announce that our next production, on June 23 at Orcas Center, will be “Blackbird, Fly,” an eloquent spoken-word/musical of artistic grace and powerful social importance starring the team of Bamuthi and “DBR.” (Google them! Believe us, you will not want to miss this performance.)

The brainchild of Michell Marshall, Woman in the Woods Productions is committed to promoting a better understanding and appreciation of racial and cultural differences through various forms of artistic expression. The organization started as a spark of an idea, which blossomed into a thriving nonprofit whose members believe in the power of the arts and of cultural diversity to enrich community and advance social justice and human dignity.

Fine. But will it be fun?”

Only one way to find out. Come join us at the Beach House, March 10, from 5 to 9 p.m., and contribute to the merriment, and to the cause.

Tickets are available at Office Cupboard or online at www.strangertickets.com/events/51785899
