Woman in the Woods Productions (WIWP) has exciting news to share this holiday. The 501c3 arts organization has added three new powerhouse board members: Jeff Henigson, Ayn Carrillo Gailey, and Julie Gottman.

They join an already dynamic board, lead by founder and board president, Michell “Mitch” Marshall, Doug Marshall (treasurer / secretary), Norm Stamper (VP), Eric Stordahl, and Gigi Carter. Now one of, if not the most, diverse boards on Orcas Island, the WIWP board feels fortunate to have multiple points of view from stakeholders with varying cultural, religious, age, and ethnic backgrounds.

Orcas Islanders can also find Woman in the Woods Productions in this year’s OICF Holiday Catalog. It is the first time they have been included in the holiday fundraising efforts and they are requesting donations in the amount of $5k to help bring world-class artists to Orcas Island to promote an understanding of racial and cultural differences through performance art. Funded by Woman in the Woods, visiting artists also provide free workshops to adult island artists and presentations to our public high school students.

For some students, these presentations by LGBTQIA artists and artists of color are the first time they experience an artist of color and teens have expressed a profound and lasting impact. In 2022, WIWP would like to bring Dr. Cornel West and a performance artist to highlight the importance of art and culture in a social struggle.
