An Elizabethan “Broken Consort” Musical Event “An Elizabethan Broken Consort” will explore renaissance chamber music with Jeffrey Cohan, renaissance transverse flutes; Courtney Kuroda, violin; and Lisa Michele Lewis, harpsichord and virginals (a small renaissance keyboard instrument). The suggested donation, a free will offering towards expenses, will be $15. Youth 18 and under are free. “An Elizabethan Broken Consort” will celebrate Renaissance chamber musicA and the transition to the new Baroque style. 1:30 p.m. at Odd Fellows Hall at (360) 376-5640. Kiwanis Paper Airplane Contest takes place in the High School Gym, starting at 1 p.m. Make and fly airplanes with prizes for time aloft, distance traveled and target accuracy.
Physical Acting for Children and Adults Jake Perrine – Acting Teacher, Director, Writer, Audio Engineer, teaches physical-based acting techniques for children ages 10 to 13. His teaching is highly active, fun, disciplined (like Karate) and a great way for children to develop an awareness of using their bodies in acting. School Benefit Music Concert sponsored by Music Advocacy Guild 3 p.m. at the Old school gymnasium. Islands’ Sinfonia, the Orcas Choral Society, and the Community Band in concert. Margie, thank you so much for your hard work, keeping us informed about all the interesting things going on in this vital community…saw the MAG concert yesterday, and I am still in awe. The talent here is mind-boggling; from the middle school string quartet to the rousing “Battle Hymn” complete with Chorus and Band, horns a-blowing and drums a-drumming…
Lots of children in the audience, so great to see that; and they were fully listening.
Great work, MAG, and the teachers, directors—and all musicians. Got tingles down my spine just from the sheer heart of it all.
