Paperworks Exhibit – Reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Madrona Room.  Philomena Robinson will speak about her “Artplay” process in creating artist books and works in other media.

Advenures in ArtPlay: Opening Reception, 5:30 pm – 7 pm, Madrona Room) Through March Orcas Center will feature works by local artist and teacher, Philomena Robinson. The exhibit will include book arts, photography and other media. In addition, a drawing and paper show, open to local artists, will be displayed in the Madrona room.  A reception will be held March 2nd in the Madrona Room from 5:30 to 7 pm.  Philomena will speak about her “Artplay” process in creating artist books and works in other media.

Pub Night at the Orcas Hotel, 6 p.m. Come enjoy island favorites Martin Lund and Gene Nery who will be playing this Friday night at the Orcas Hotel.

When Bullfrogs Sing Opera presentation by Actors Theater of Orcas Island at the Grange at 7:30 p.m. This play is suitable for all ages.  Tickets available from Darvills or www.orcasactors.com or at the door.

Live Music with Rachel Robinson, Doe Bay, 7 p.m. Rachel Robinson is a LA native singer/songwriter currently living in Portland.  She writes songs of love, longing and heartbreak with a healthy sense of humor, a penchant for all things beautiful and the spirit of hope eternal.  Guests with dinner reservations in the Café will get free day use passes to the spa (for use that day only)!  To make dinner reservations, please call the Café at 376-8059.

The Adventures of Tin Tin, Seaview Theater, 7:30 p.m. Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures Present a 3D Motion Capture Film directed by Steven Spielberg. Starring Jamie Bell as Tintin, the intrepid young reporter whose relentless pursuit of a good story thrusts him into a world of high adventure, and Daniel Craig as the nefarious Red Rackham. Rated: PG.

“Cooperative businesses or co-op”, the First Island Enterprise Lab-sponsored event  at The Funhouse Commons from 10:00 – 2:00, including a catered lunch (reservations required for food).  A workshop on cooperative businesses or co-ops—what they are, how they work. Professional Co-op developers from the Northwest Cooperative Development Center in Olympia will be leading this workshop Call 376 7177 for reservations and info.

Celebrate the Birthday of Dr. Seuss, 2-3 p..m., Darvills Bookstore, with Audrey Neddermann and Lynne!  There will be Stories, Crafts, and Treats! Please note: This kid’s event is on Saturday due to the school Music  Program Benefit Concert on Sunday.

Post Party, building a fence at the new school garden. Behind the elementary school maple tree.  11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The following tools would be helpful if you can bring them:  Post hole digger, long steel tamping bar, forks, hoes, mattocks, flat digging spades, shovels, bark forks (for wood chips), wheelbarrows, and extra work gloves.  Sponsored by Farm to Cafeteria.

The 17th Annual Kiwanis Paper Airplane Contest,  1 pm in the Orcas Island High School Gym. Please join us! Prizes will be given in each of the three age groups for the longest distance flight, closest to a spot, and longest air time. Single prizes will be awarded regardless of age to the ‘Most Beautiful Paper Airplane’ and a special grand prize to anyone who can fly an airplane into a basket in the middle of the gym floor.

Airplane building begins at 1 pm and flying begins at 2 pm.

Academy Chamber Orchestra, Orcas Center Stage, 7:30 p.m. The unrivaled premier youth chamber orchestra from the Northwest, Academy Chamber Orchestra returns to Orcas Center with some of the most gifted young musicians in the region. ACO musicians heard last year at the Orcas Center are now attending Juilliard, the Curtis Institute of Music and Harvard University. If you have no heard them before, don’t miss this chance to see the future of Chamber Music. Alan Futterman, music director of the Bremerton Symphony and the Peninsula Ballet Orchestra, directs. Cost: $15, $11 (students) $2 off for Orcas Center members.

15th Annual Music Advocacy Group (MAG) Benefit Concert featuring OI Community Band, Island Sinfonia, Orcas Choral Society and special music groups from the Orcas public school students.  This annual event is admission by donation at the door, Sunday, March 4 at 3:00pm at the Orcas Middle School Gym.
