Here’s some of the lineup — the returning M&M’s, Matthew Laslo-White’s magic show, the first runners-up of the “Orcas Has Talent” Show, a couple of father-daughter acts, original composers and songwriters and three generations of Gincigs — sounds like a Whale of a Show!
This Friday, the local youth talent show returns to the Orcas Center as Didier Gincig and his daughter Emilie take the stage to emcee a baker’s dozen local acts.
Tryouts were held just last weekend, and Didier says thanks to word of mouth and small town dynamics, the kids will be ready to share their talent on the Orcas Center Stage. “We couldn’t do it without the audience supporting the kids — and they’re also going to love the show. ”
It starts off with Bella Evans and Morgan Limbach singing “Another Opening, Another Show.”
Bill Gincig, the patriarch of the Gincig family, will sing the gently humorous, “Sweet Violets.”
Singer-composer Madi Jane West will perform one of her own compositions.
Sasha Hagan, prolific young violinist, will play classics by Massenet and Rameau from memory.
Stormy Hildreth, powerful 4th grade singer and pianist performs to “Colors of the Wind,” Boogie Bounce” and “Robot Rock.”
Allmost Canadian Classics, who came in second at this year’s “Orcas Has Talent” show, are fronted by Julie Bailey. Her brother Christian Bailey, Emmy and Lisa Carter, Anthoy Kasgurs, Kellen Comrie, Cole Smith and Paris Wilson round out the multi-instrument group; the group will recreate “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga and “What Makes You Beautiful.”
Kellen Comrie will also perform his own piano compositions in a separate act.
Lucas Limbach will accompany his daughter Morgan on guitar when she sings “I Still Miss Someone.”
Bella Evans will sing “Beautiful You” by Strawberry Shortcake; she and Morgan Limbach will also sing together.
Bella Evans’ twin Mona and her dad Christopher Evans, will dance and sing to a song composed by Mona.
Benjamin Pollard will play “Intermezzo” on piano.
His brother Lee Pollard will play “Linus and Lucy” by Chuck Guaraldi and “Fur Elise” by Beethoven.
The Litch-Bishop Family — Dad Jim Litch, Mom Rachel Bishop and sons, musicians all, may start a new Whale Show craze — the family act.
Meet the next generation of Orcas — and worldwide — talent at this annual show, with benefits going to Orcas Center Youth Productions, under Deborah Sparks. Didier Gincig thanks the Center and Sparks for co-sponsoring this event. He expects the show to sell out, as usual. “With behind-the-scene buzz and word of mouth, the build-up is part of the fun. Emilie’s a good recruiter and the show itself is the best recruiter for next year,” he says. KT Laslo and Phil Burbo will pitch in to provide top-quality sound and lights, respectively.
“Personally I have a blast up there and I’m really excited. It so much fun,” says Didier.
Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the Orcas Center between noon and 4 p.m. today and tomorrow, or online at orcascenter.org.
