The Whale Museum is starting its Summer Lecture Series with A Picture of Health: Southern Resident Killer Whale Photogrammetry Research. Join us on June 20 at 7 p.m. at The Whale Museum for an evening of education with Dr. Holly Fearnbach of SR3: SeaLife Response, Rehabilitation and Research.
Fearnbach will talk about SR3’s long-term aerial photogrammetry research on the endangered population of Southern Resident killer whales. She will start with an introduction to the study and then dive right in to how these data are being used to help recover the population.
Summer lectures are free and open to the public!
Fearnbach is the Marine Mammal Research Director for SR3: SeaLife Response, Rehabilitation and Research, a non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of marine life in the Pacific Northwest.
Holly conducted Ph.D. studies on the use of aerial photogrammetry to measure trends in body size of Southern Resident killer whales, and has continued this research over the past decade to develop a time series of body condition measurements to track nutritional health over time.
