Sunday, June 14, 9:45 a.m., Friday Harbor ferry terminal
— from Ingrid Gabriel, County Council Clerk —
The San Juan County Council and the Town of Friday Harbor will be welcoming the M/V Samish on her official maiden voyage to the San Juan Islands. The Welcome begins at 9:45 AM on Sunday, June 14th at the Friday Harbor ferry terminal.
Musical entertainment will be provided by the San Juan Jazz Quintet followed by a few words from Secretary of the Washington State Department of Transportation Lynn Peterson, Town of Friday Harbor Mayor Carrie Lacher and San Juan County Council Chair Bob Jarman. Fire District #3 and the new fire boat Sentinel will provide an escort into the harbor.
Come welcome the new ferry, watch the fire boat display its water cannons, and help kick off the Summer 2015 sailing schedule.

So, according to the new summer schedule, in order for any Orcas people to be in FH for a 9:45am celebration start, we’d have to get on the ‘scenic route’, leaving Orcas at 6:55am.
My real question is: is the new ferry leaving Anacortes at 4:15am on a straight shot to arrive in FH at 5:20am and just sit at the dock until 9:45? Or maybe the 6:25am departure from Anacortes straight to FH, arriving at 8:15?
If that’s the case, it will already be carrying people, so it’s not really an inaugural maiden run . . .
I guess that FH gets all the press, even though other stops have topped them for increases in ferry traffic.
According to my ferry reservation (picked on purpose for this), the Samish is the boat scheduled for the 7:35 run from Orcas to Anacortes on Sunday. So the initial run is Anacortes to Orcas and back, before the “official maiden voyage” from Anacortes to Friday Harbor.
