The Orcas Island Public Library recently announced a call for submissions by Alki: The Washington Library Association Journal by January 25, 2013.

Submissions will address “The Patron Perspective.”  Patrons are asked to write, in 500 words or less, what the library means to you.

Suggestions for the submissions are:

  • How do you use your library? or Why don’t you use it?
  • What’s your favorite thing about your library?
  • If you could change one thing about your library, what would it be?
  • How has the library changed in your lifetime?

The Washington Library Association says, “We’re looking for interesting articles that examine libraries from a variety of perspectives, written by users (or non-users) of libraries, not by librarians or library workers.”

Some submissions will be selected for publication in the March 2013 issue of Alki: The Washington Library Association Journal.  Submit articles by email to alkieditor@wla.org. The deadline for submissions is January 25, 2013.

All works should be original. Submissions are edited. The editor and the Alki committee make the final decision on any submitted material. Alki retains electronic representation and distribution rights to its contents. Alki reserves the right to re-use text, photos and artwork in subsequent issues, with notification to the submitters, if possible. Otherwise, all rights revert to the authors.
