Weekly Case Update:
Since the last update on Friday March 11, there have been 15 new confirmed or probable cases in San Juan County. Current case count is now 1262.

  • LOPEZ ISLAND: There is 1 new case on Lopez Island since the last update.
  • ORCAS ISLAND: There are 2 new cases on Orcas Island since the last update.
  • SAN JUAN ISLAND: There are 12 new cases on San Juan Island since the last update.

Case Rates:
While there are advantages and disadvantages to all data points used to measure the pandemic, a population adjusted look at weekly case rates can provide a sense of the ebb and flow of the disease. Below is a chart of the weekly case rate per 100,000 residents (so actual case numbers were much lower) for the three main islands between November 1 and today. Interesting to see early wave on Lopez, rapid sharp spike on Orcas, and lingering cases on San Juan.

Masking:

We should all remember that continuing to wear a mask is a perfectly sensible choice and there are a wide array of health and risk reasons that make masking a good idea- including the fact that everyone should mask up if they must be in public while sick. Please be respectful of those who continue to mask.
