Whale of a Show 6:30 p.m. at Orcas Center. Back by popular demand, “Whale of a Show “is a lot of fun packed in to one evening. Didier Gincig directs this premier showcase of Orcas’ young talent. Elementary, middle and high school kids ages 6 – 18 years, shine on stage in a celebration of dance, music, song, poetry, skits, and improv.

The Back to School Barbeque starts at 5 p.m. in the school cafeteria and courtyard. The PTSA will provide hot dogs and veggie dogs, and families are encouraged to bring salads and side dishes.

Rollerskating, starts at 5:30 in the Old Gym.

Saturday, Sept. 29

Farmer’s Market at Eastsound Village Green from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This week features
Chili Cook Off to benefit holiday giving tree. The Lions Club, the Kiwanis and the Orcas Island Farmers Market are hosting a Chili Cook Off to benefit the Giving Tree Program which provides holiday gifts for island children and teens. We have almost reached capacity for entries, don’t miss your chance for culinary glory. Entry fee is only $35 forms and rules can be picked up at the Library Circulation desk or by calling Jim Biddick at 376-2488.

Truckasauras at Doe Bay Cafe at 9 p.m. From underground house parties, to impromptu street performances, to proper rock venues, Truckasauras’ explosive lo-fi, audio-visual sets continually raise the bar for not just electronic music, but for anyone seeking to captivate an audience and rock the party. Truckasauras deftly rides the line between performance art and a really weird camping trip. Call 376-2291.

Sunday, Sept. 30

Orcas Island Rowing (OIR) Club will be holding their local fall rowing regatta “The Headless Head” starting at 10 a.m. and racing will start shortly thereafter. The action takes place on Cascade Lake in Moran State Park. Boats launch and the finish line is near the OIR boathouse at the south end of the lake.

Fall Harvest Fundraising Dinner, sponsored by FoodMasters and Farm Education and Sustainability for Teens (FEAST) at Odd Fellows Hall. Doors open at 5pm for a social hour and silent auction. Followed by a short film on the F.E.A.S.T. program and a delicious island grown and crafted dinner. Later in the evening there will be an exciting live auction and more live music! Tickets for the event can be purchased for $25 for adults and $10 for children at the FunHouse Commons. There is limited seating so reserve your spot ahead of time.
