||| FROM PARKER PAVITT for ORCAS ODD FELLOWS HALL |||
The Odd Fellows Hall welcomes you to the upcoming Family Dance, an all-ages extravaganza featuring dance music from ABBA to Stevie Wonder. We invite the community to join us on Saturday, August 23rd from 7-10pm for an evening of tunes, games, snacks, and fun. Bring the whole family; there’s something for everyone!
Local DJs & family duo Bruce and Parker Pavitt are excited to share an eclectic mix of their personal favorites during this shared set. Bruce is the founder of Seattle’s Sub Pop, the record label that first discovered Nirvana, Soundgarden and Mudhoney. From his role in shaping the Seattle sound of the ’90s, he brings a similar approach to curating a killer setlist. Parker is a former DJ at college station WMHC 91.3 where they hosted a history-themed show broadcasting a diverse range of songs from the archives of recorded music.
“Parker and I originally teamed up to DJ local benefits twenty years ago, and I’m stoked we’re back, ” says Bruce. “Family dances are always fun – kids give adults permission to be whimsical.”
He took Parker to their first live concert as a baby and the two have been sharing music together ever since. “We have so many great family memories with music. I still remember the first CD I ever had was a gift from my dad, the Go-Go’s Beauty and the Beat,” says Parker. “And now I get to share one of my favorite songs from that album at the Family Dance. It feels like a celebration.”
Suggested donation on a sliding scale from $5-50. Everyone is welcome! Funds raised will go towards supporting ongoing operations and programming at the Hall. We welcome your event ideas and booking inquiries; we would love to host your next birthday party, social club meeting, performing arts events, quinceañera, wedding, or workshop. About the Odd Fellows Hall
Since 1891, the Odd Fellows Hall has been a lively meeting place for locals and visitors to learn, teach, share, and celebrate. This beloved historic hall continues to reflect community values and to function as a vital social hub on Orcas Island.
Members of our Order are dedicated to providing aid to our neighbors in need. As a service organization we have mobilized to support scholarships for young people, to help families stay warm through winter, and countless other acts of assistance. We volunteer time and labor to maintain our historic Hall as a gathering space for all islanders.
