Following the spring school break from April 6 to 13, Orcas Island students again sit down for Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) testing.

The 10th graders have already finished the WASL Reading and Writing tests.

Elementary/Middle School Principal Tom Gobeske announced at the March 26 Orcas Island School District meeting that this year’s WASL tests have been revised with fewer sessions in Math and Science.

In the past, Gobeske said, the tests have “been more of a marathon challenge.”

In his report to the school board, Gobeske wrote, “It is expected that the WASL will continue for next year at 10th grade but will be shorter with only one day of testing for the Reading and Math WASL tests. It will also be called the High School Proficiency Test instead of the WASL.”

Following are two math practice problems for third grade in algebraic sense to test your own math sense. The questions are from the Port Angeles School District WASL site.
