In response to school closures throughout the state, all PBS affiliate stations are increasing daily educational programming for at-home learning
SEATTLE—KCTS 9, KBTC, KSPS, and Northwest Public Broadcasting—all PBS member stations throughout Washington—are partnering with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to support educators and families as they embark on a new journey of providing distance learning for students. Resources are available for all grades Pre-K through 12 across PBS learning platforms and supported by PBS LearningMedia.
As always, early learning resources are available through PBS KIDS, online and over the air. The PBS KIDS 24/7 channel offers anytime access to trusted educational series for kids ages 2-8. There are also hundreds of learning games, increased episodes to stream and daily activities to keep even the youngest students engaged.
Understanding the importance of equity in education, especially during this time, the WORLD Channel is broadcasting free educational content for grades 6-12 from 9am to 2pm weekdays. Each program also has supporting curriculum though PBS LearningMedia. (Links to WORLD Channel content listed below by station.)
Washington State PBS stations are also working hard to connect parents and children with resources to help them through the next several months of school closures. PBS KIDS for Parents offers guidance for talking with your child about coronavirus, ideas for learning through play at home, and tips for parents navigating a new normal.
No matter where families are located in Washington, teachers and families can connect with local PBS stations and resources. Resources and contacts listed as follows:
