from Steve Jehly,
Veterans Advisory Board
The Veterans’ Advisory Board, established in November 2007, provides emergency financial services to indigent veterans, widows, widowers, and/or orphans. This emergency assistance is available to eligible individuals who are finding it difficult to meet their monthly needs for food, rent, medical needs, transportation, or other required assistance.
Applications are available at all SJC libraries, Senior Centers and Sheriff’s offices. Applications can also be downloaded at the San Juan County site.
The Veteran’s Advisory Board consists of nine members, ideally at least one from San Juan, Orcas, Shaw and Lopez Islands. There are vacancies on the VAB and county veterans are encouraged to apply. Meetings are on the last Friday of each month; usually in Friday Harbor. Terms are for two years.
