This monthly gathering celebrates compassionate, healthy and sustainable plant-based lifestyle. Join in on the lively conversation, get inspired, learn something new, come home with recipes, and enjoy yummy food!
Everyone is welcome to attend, whether veg curious, vegetarian, or vegan.
The potlucks will feature 100% plant-based dishes, so please bring vegan items only.
Movie: Cowspiracy. Learn how factory farming is decimating the planet’s natural resources and why this crisis has been largely ignored by major environmental groups.
Tell your friends. Everyone is welcome. Family friendly. Call Lydia 376-6161 with questions.

Before you attend the showing…
Information meant to mislead the layperson is often a hallmark of those fighting widespread understanding of anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance (human induced climate change). Good-hearted souls making movies with a lack of context are also a problem. Their union can be disastrous. “Cowspiracy” is an example of that. Having seen the movie, I agree with Lydia that there are many aspects of the movie that are spot-on; however, the producers are simply wrong on sources of GHG emissions worldwide.

For years now there has been an effort to deflect clarity on the impacts of fossil fuels on anthropogenic forcing of the radiative balance. One sub-effort has been to show how methane (flatulence) emitted through livestock–primarily cattle–is the worrisome cause of climate change.
The argument goes that since methane is far more potent than carbon dioxide, approximately 27x more, and methane is the core of cow flatulence we need to be far more worried about methane from livestock, rather than carbon dioxide from fossil fuels.
The flaw in the argument is that carbon dioxide has a persistence of 60 plus years in the atmosphere while methane does not (far less than 12 years).

The movie is worth seeing once armed with clarity.
Considering that clarity, do you know much about methane hydrates?
This is one of the best documentaries I’ve seen for uncovering key environmental issues that have been ignored for too long. Definitely worth watching!
• Livestock accounts for 32,000 million tons of CO2 per year, or 51% of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
• Animal agriculture is responsible for up to 91% of Amazon destruction.
• Growing feed crops for livestock consumes 56% of water in the US.
• Livestock operations have created more than 500 nitrogen dead zones in our oceans.
