from Melinda Milligan

Auditions for two upcoming plays at The Grange, Almost, Maine, and Moonlight and Magnolias, will be held on Wednesday, September 11 and again on Monday September 16 at 7 p.m. at The Grange.

Almost, Maine, by John Cariani, will be directed by Melinda Milligan. On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night’s dream. Performances for Almost, Maine will begin on December 6 and run through December 15.

Moonlight and Magnolias, by Ron Hutchison, will be directed by Doug Bechtel. 1939 Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone With the Wind, a film adaptation of Margaret Mitchell’s novel. The screenplay, you see, just doesn’t work. So what’s an all-powerful movie mogul to do? While fending off the film’s stars, gossip columnists and his own father-in-law, Selznick sends a car for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of The Wizard of Oz. Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor for five days to fashion the screenplay for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time. Moonlight and Magnolias will open on February 21 and close on March 9.

Auditions are fun, with no preparation required. Copies of both scripts are at the Library for perusal. Readings at auditions will be from those scripts. About 20 adult actors needed.
