Earlier this month, United Way of San Juan County announced grants totaling $115,000 to county programs.
Executive Director Bonnie Gilmore said, “our donors are important partners in our efforts to provide services to hundreds of island residents who participate in United Way supported programs…United Way’s goals and priorities are building healthy and resilient children and families.”

Readiness to Learn was awarded $3,500 towards staff salaries and, through Orcas Island Prevention Partnership Coalition, $1,000 towards the “Active Parenting Now” series of classes that will take place for three consecutive Wednesday evenings beginning Feb. 25.
Leota Shaner will be teaching the classes. Parents of school-age children interested in signing up for the class should call 376-1590.
