WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Two new Asian giant hornet sightings were confirmed by the Washington Department of Agriculture (WSDA) in the same area where two nests were previously eradicated.
The sightings occurred in a rural area east of Blaine in Whatcom County, according to the WSDA.
The Department of Agriculture is working on tagging the hornets in the hopes of tracking them back to another nest.
Asian giant hornets are invasive to the United States. They’re known to attack and destroy honey bee hives. A few hornets can destroy a hive within a few hours, according to the WSDA.
