Tosca will be seen on Friday, July 29 at the Orcas Center

Orcas Center presents the 5th opera  of the Summer HD Encores, a series of 6 screenings from the award-winning Metropolitan Opera series Live in HD; Puccini’s Tosca on Friday July 29 at 7:30 pm.

Luc Bondy’s controversial and avant-garde production of Puccini’s operatic thriller, which Le Monde called “a perfect night at the opera,” stars Karita Mattila in the title role. Marcelo Álvarez is her lover, the painter Cavaradossi, and George Gagnidze plays Scarpia, the sadistic chief of police who wants Tosca for himself. Joseph Colaneri conducts.

This production of Tosca was originally aired in 2009.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $11 for students ($2 off for Orcas Center members). Tickets may be purchased on the website or by calling  376-2281 ext 1 or visiting the Orcas Center box office during box office hours which are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 12- 4 pm. The last opera of the summer series; The Met: Live in HD Summer Encores at Orcas Center will be Don Carlo  by  Verdi on Friday, August 5 at 7: 30 p.m.
