The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce a training on Orcas Island occurring May 18, 2023. In the interest of information sharing and trying to minimize the potential of alarm of Orcas residents, the Office is alerting the public of this evening’s activities.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, Orcas Island Fire Rescue, and Rangers from WA State Park will be conducting a Joint Night Search & Rescue Training in the Moran State Park/Mt. Constitution area. This training will involve multiple emergency vehicles and the use of the Sheriff’s Office drone for search and rescue missions.

This training will be occurring between the hours of 7PM – 11PM. This information is being shared to minimize potential concerns of anyone seeing a large number of emergency vehicles gathered in the area of the training and to inform everyone of the multiple agencies working together on this training to better serve our community. Future trainings of this nature will be scheduled on other islands and the SJCSO will make similar notifications when those trainings are scheduled.
