Indian Island Marine Health Observatory Field Research Days May 28-30. Join local scientists and community volunteers at Eastsound Waterfront Park in conducting  surveys of fish and intertidal animals on low tide days during the spring and summer. Learn about the unique marine life of our home waterfront.
Approximately 11:30 a.m. each day. Wear appropriate footwear for walking to the island (wet sand, gravel, shallow water), and come on down to the beach! For further info – www.Indianisland.info.

The Orcas Historical Museum Opening Day celebration — fun food and music, at 4 p.m.Regular museum hours starting Saturday, May 29th through July 4th will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Mondays.

Memorial Day Weekend Family Camp at YMCA Camp Orkila, from 4 p.m. Friday, to Monday May 29 at noon — Three nights for the price of two!  Enjoy a weekend (or just a day) of fun at Camp Orkila.  Activities include kayaking, challenge course, archery, riflery, crafts, pottery, games, touch tank, giant swing, climbing wall, and pond exploration.  We’ll cook AND do the dishes!  Cost: $55/day, including meals and activities, no lodging; All-weekend Cost with lodging: $123/Adult, $101/Child. Kaleidoscope’s 20th annual Pet Parade. Registration/Judging at 10 a.m. and parade starts 11 a.m. Come have fun showing off your favorite pet!  The parade route ends at the Village Green stage where all participants receive a trophy or ribbon and a goodie bag from Pawki’s.  Don’t miss out on the fun.  Call 376-2484.

Bite of Orcas 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Village Green in Eastsound. In its 15th year, Orcas’  annual  food festival features the island’s finest restaurants and chefs. A fundraiser for Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center A non-profit organization caring for wildlife in the San Juan Islands for 28 years. Orcas School Open House Tours and Art Exhibit 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Orcas Island School Board and Superintendent Barbara Kline will be giving tours of the scope of the new $27M bond at the Orcas School Library. There will be literature and time for questions and answers throughout the Open House.  Pieces from the  art projects from this year’s elementary school will be on display in the first floor halls of the elementary school, and art from the Middle/High/OASIS School Art Show will be on display in the Library.
