Orcas Museum Season Opening Party at 4:30 p.m. at the Historical Museum on North Beach Road right next to the Village Green. Festivities take place inside the Museum and on the front walkway as weather permits, including finger food, refreshments and live music. Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. Farmer’s Market the Eastsound Village Green from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Orcas farmers and crafters celebrate the beginning of what promises to be our best season yet.  Spring produce, plant starts and fresh offerings from our island crafters help usher in the return of the Market for the 2012 season.  Special this Saturday: Welcome special guests Sara & Nick from the Jones Family Farm on beautiful Lopez Island.  Jones Family Farm supplies sustainably grown produce, meant and shellfish to markets and restaurants. Bite of Orcas Island restaurants and caterers will be presenting examples of their culinary wares under the big white tent for the benefit of Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center  at the Eastsound Village Green. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Food for Thought, Orcas Island Education Foundation’s major fundraiser for our public schools is a “Picnic By The Sea” at Four Winds Camp. Enjoy great barbequed brisket, hamburgers, veggie options, all the delicious sides, and desserts. Beer, wine and lemonade will be available and toe-tapping music provided by the incomparable JP and the OK Rhythm Boys. Tickets are only $40 per person or $75 per couple, and includes free childcare at the Camp during the picnic if you need it, and a free ride! If you don’t want to drive, a school bus will be waiting for you in front of the school at 5:30 p.m. so you don’t have to spend gas to get there…just leave the driving to us! The event starts at 6 and the bus will take you back to the school on or before 9 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online at www.oief.org/events.html, at Darvill’s or at the Elementary School office.

Clean and Sober Danceat Odd Fellows Hall clean and sober islanders have planned a dance for all ages from 8:30 pm – 12:30am. Everyone is invited. “Italy Comes to Deer Harbor” Deer Harbor Women’s Auxiliary presents a delicious meal and fabulous entertainment are planned at the historic Deer Harbor Community Club as its annual fund raising event. Lasagna & sausage prepared by the Deer Harbor Inn, Bread, Caesar Salad and Tiramisu dessert will be served.  You’ll also get a taste of Italian opera performed by prim donna Sharon Abreu.  A wonderful evening out at this affordable price is not to be missed!  All proceeds go to the maintenance of the historic school house.  Tickets are $20 per person; wine will be available by donation.
