— from Sheriff Ron Krebs —
On June 1st 2015, I promoted long time Deputy and Orcas Island resident Herb Crowe to the position of Sergeant. Herb is an Orcas Island High School graduate and 15+ year veteran of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.
For the last 13 years he has been in charge of the Sheriff’s Office Marine program and teaching boating safety classes for the public. He is one of the current Field Training Officers for the department and has a hand in training most all of the new deputies we have hired over the years.
Herb will hold a resident Sergeant position that has been vacant since Steve Vierthaller retired in 2011. Deputy Crowe’s commitment to both the Sheriff’s Office and the Orcas Island community over the years has been unparalleled. I have complete confidence in Herb and know that he will uphold the highest standards which Steve Vierthaller (retired) upheld for so many years.
Congratulations Sgt. Crowe.
