Power Outageat 5 a.m. All of Shaw Island and the west side of Orcas Island (Deer Harbor, Orcas Village, Eastsound and everything to the west of Youngren’s Pond) will experience a planned power outage beginning at 5 a.m. and ending by 5:30 a.m. This outage is projected to last only 30 seconds and is necessary to upgrade a piece of equipment that will improve system reliability. OPALCO encourages all members to install surge protection to safeguard electronic, computer and other sensitive equipment and appliances. To prepare for the outage, members may want to turn sensitive electronics and equipment off at the surge protector, or unplug them completely.

Charter Review Commission meets at the Eastsound Fire Hall from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Public comment welcome at 8:30 a.m. The CRC is charged with reviewing the Charter “to determine its adequacy and suitability to the needs of the County.” Proposed changes will be put on the ballot for the public to vote on in November. Findings supporting the CRC recommendations are available at the CRC website: www.sanjuanco.com/committees/charterreview.

Doe Bay Wine Festival includes seminar on sustainable wines ($25), a casual “Meet the Winemakers” tasting ($10) with Seattle string band Rabbit Stew, and a Grand Tasting ($25) under a tent by the Salish Sea. Community Dance with Funk & Soul music, from the sixties to the present, will be provided by Bruce Pavitt and Jay Kimball. The dance will benefit the Odd Fellows Community Giving Fund, which offers scholarships for graduating high school students, funding for special community projects, educational opportunities sponsorship, community actions, and dances. Guests to the island and locals are invited to dance, have a great time, and support the good works of the Odd Fellows. Rabbit Stew at Doe Bay Resort — Old-time string band Rabbit Stew at Doe Bay’s First Annual Wine Fest!
