“Global Warming: Separating Truth from Hype” with Dr. Cliff Mass, 5:30 p.m. at the Orcas Center Madrona Room. Mass is Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the University Of Washington; his specialties are weather prediction, numerical modeling, the influence of topography on weather systems, the structure and evolution of weather systems, and the weather of the western U.S. A question and answer session follows. “Torso” — a dark, riveting and emotional exploration of grief and revenge, the latest production from The Actors Theater of Orcas Island, 7:30 p.m. at the Grange. This play contains strong language, adult situations and partial nudity. This play is not suitable for pre-teens and those easily offended. Jazzercise of Orcas Island holds special Community Cardio classes at no-charge, thanks to the generous coordination of the OI Community Church (OICC) and the Odd Fellows. Jazzercise is offered by Paige McCormick (376-3310), certified instructor of this international dance fitness program. From 9 to 10 a.m. at the OICC Fellowship Hall (enter at lower door, east side). Sunday, September 2

14th annual Steve Braun Memorial Triathlon at Moran State Park. Pre-Race is 8:30 am. Race starts at 9 am. Half-mile swim in Cascade Lake, 15-mile bike ride out just past Doe Bay and back. The final leg is a 3.5 mile run around Cascade Lake. Registration is $45 Pre- Registration can be done online at www.friendsofmoran.com/sbmt by August 31st. After August 31 registration is $55. Participants can do one or two legs of the event or as a team. Those wishing to volunteer can email info@friendsofmoran.com.

Agave Restaurant Good-bye to summer with JP and the OK Rhythm Boys from 6 to 8 p.m.. Orcas Island’s own Anita Orne & Gordon Koenig are joined by fellow musician JP Whitman for a night of music and frivolity. Reservations are recommeded by phoning Agave at 376-1422.

“Tribute To The Masters” jazz concert with renowned Jazz trumpet master, Willie Thomas and an all-star line up. At Orcas Center at 7:30 p.m. Ticket are available at Darvills’ Bookstore and online at brownpapertickets.com. All net proceeds will benefit The Funhouse Commons.
