The County Marine Resources Committee’s 2009 Work Plan will be discussed at their meeting Feb. 4, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Islanders Bank in Friday Harbor.
Also discussed will be two grant opportunities — the restoration of marine habitat through removal of lost fishing net and coordinating monitoring to enable adaptive management of the San Juan Marine Stewardship Area. PTSA meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Orcas High School’s technology teacher, Paul Evans, will discuss cybersafety — from straightforward recommendations about where and how to allow children use of computers, age-appropriate activities, cyberbullying, online perils and access to unsuitable materials.
Also, representatives of YMCA Camp Orkila will make a brief presentation describing several new day camp programs to be offered this summer which are specifically geared for local kids. As always, childcare will be provided.

The Orcas Island Chamber of Commerce presents another “Business Essentials” seminar, this time pertaining to the issue of affordable housing on Orcas Island and the San Juans.Guest speakers are Angela Lausch (San Juan County); Lisa Byers (OPAL); and John Campbell (Homes for Islanders).
Coffee, tea and pastries begin at 7:45 a.m.at the Outlook Inn’s Victorian Room. The Chamber asks members for a $5 donation, and non-members a $10 donation, to help offset room costs. To RSVP, call 376-2273.
