The Tempest, The Met: Live in HD’s acclaimed production of Shakespeare’s magical fable, comes to Orcas Center’s big screen on Sunday, November 18 at 1:00 pm.

Composer Thomas Adès conducts the Metropolitan Opera premiere of his own work, with baritone Simon Keenlyside starring as Prospero. Director Robert Lepage recreates the interior of 18th-century La Scala , including the hidden workings underneath the stage, where Prospero, the banished Duke of Milan, practices his otherworldly arts.

“The music immediately plunges listeners into a world of explosive energy and luminous color so that they are cast adrift on the seascape that Prospero has unleashed.”

  • “Mr. Adès’s Tempest is itself a dream its listeners will want to immerse themselves in again and again, as they already have in opera houses and productions from London to Santa Fe, from Copenhagen to Quebec. It’s a musical and theatrical vision of magical, transformative power. One of the most inspired, audacious and personal operas to have come along in years.” NY Times
  • “A masterpiece of airy beauty and eerie power.” The New Yorker
  • “The Met at its adventurous best. Magical in every respect.”  Wall Street Journal
