OIEF is sponsoring the Orcas Island performance of a Seattle-based high school singing group known as “The Onions.”

The group includes16 girls and boys aged 15-18. The music they sing runs the gamut from jazz standards, to Motown hits and on to more contemporary pop music by bands like Cold Play. The Onions compete in regionally held national competitions, and last year won three first place positions in the Heritage Music Festival in Los Angeles including Best out of all 200 choral groups competing and Best Vocal Jazz Group.

This year, their music director, Mark Hoover, says “Out of my 22 years of teaching, I’ve never had as good a group as this one!” The Onions focus on giving their audiences a great time with exuberant arrangements, upbeat rhythms and gorgeous harmonies. They will perform on April 11 at 4:00 p.m. in the Oddfellows Hall. Tickets are $8 (adults and children) and may be purchased at the door the evening of the performance or at Darvill’s starting March 30.

All proceeds will go to benefit the Orcas Island public schools music program.
