Tuesday, May 1

A Spontaneous Celebration with Thrive Orcas — a spontaneous celebration at the Liberty Garden (Pioneer Park) — between North Beach Road and Prune Alley. (Look for Jamey’s pizza wagon). Beginning at 3 p.m. into the evening. Drop in. Offer a hand with the garden. Bring food and water to share. Contributions for pizza toppings or cash to get toppings; alder wood for burning in the oven; salad ingredients… Bring your own eating utensils to keep trash to a minimum. This is a family affair!

Wednesday, May 2

Dana Lyons at the Olga Energetic Club  (AKA Olga Community Center) in beautiful downtown Olga, as part of the “Beyond the Park” Concert series. His concert will be  at 7 p.m.  $10 at the door.

Thursday, May 3

Mt. Baker Road Improvement Field Walk –San Juan County Public Works Department will host an Informational field walk on the Land Bank’s Stonebridge Preserve which will be affected by the Mount Baker Road and Trail Improvement project, rain or shine from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm on the first parcel West of Terrill Beach Road on the North side of Mt Baker Road.  Please park off the road at OPALCO’s Generator Plant, traffic control will be provided.

Eastsound Planning Review Committee (EPRC) meets from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Hall.

Friday, May 4

Community Zip day at Camp Orkila, from 2 to 5 pm. If interested, you must call camp at 360-376-2678 to sign-up for a time assignment. Please know the number of people in your party at the time of calling.  Maximum weight capacity for a single rider is 285 lbs (subject to change depending on conditions) and children must be entering 3rd grade or older to participate. Being prompt is important so please plan to arrive at camp 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time.  Please enter through the main entrance on Mount Baker Road and follow signs to the designated parking areas. 7th Annual Festival of Plays at the Grange Opening Night, 7:30 p.m. This weekend and the next — Friday May 11, Saturday May 12, and closing on Sunday May 13. All performances are at 7:30PM. Saturday, May 5

OPALCO Annual Meeting onboard the interisland ferry. Due to the spring ferry schedule, the meeting is early this year. Members from San Juan Island will need to arrive at the Spring Street Landing at 7 a.m. to register for the meeting and board a charter vessel (Call 376-3549 to reserve a spot); Orcas members should arrive at the ferry landing to register at 8:00 a.m.; Lopez members register at the ferry landing at 8:40 a.m.; and Shaw members board the ferry at 9:10 a.m. For the full travel schedule, please go to www.opalco.com. Reservations are required for members traveling from San Juan Island only. Members and their families who attend the Annual Meeting will be treated to a healthy and delicious brunch.  Every member who attends will receive a $7.50 credit on their next bill (one credit per membership)—and there are limited edition 75th Anniversary gifts for everyone in attendance.  Every member has a chance to win a fabulous door prize including a $750 bill credit and other items.

Sunday, May 6

Fish Seining at Indian Island Join local scientists and community volunteers at Eastsound Waterfront Park and learn about the unique marine life of Eastsound’s waterfront. Fish Seining starts at 10 a.m. at the Eastsound Waterfront Park.

Open House at Oberon Meadow OPAL Community Land Trust is hosting an open house  from 1 to 3 p.m. Orcas residents and prospective buyers may view three island homes that were moved last year to Oberon Meadow, OPAL’ s newest neighborhood in Eastsound. Parking available at the Dog Park across North Beach Road. Call 376-3191.
