Riveting theatre-in-the-round on the OffCenter Stage of Orcas Center, The Life of Galileo by Bertolt Brecht, continues this Thursday, January 31 –Saturday, February 2 at 7:30 pm

This brilliantly written and engaging play, The Life of Galileo, is totally relevant to today’s world and tackles issues of science, oppression, responsibility, humanity and passion. The play is about the scientist, Galileo, who was initially celebrated as a great man of the Renaissance – until the church and oppressive government condemned his teachings. Fearing he would stimulate doubt and cause the general population to question basic tenets and religious beliefs, as well as the church’s attitudes toward scientific discovery, Galileo became a victim of the nefarious Inquisition. Or did he?

The Life of Galileo is performed in the round, creating a captivating and intriguing intimacy which is embraced by the fine ensemble of actors. Robert Hall has compiled a fascinating collection of videos, images and music projected onto two large screens above the heads of the audience. With the mesmerizing projections, innovative direction and staging look forward to an evening of stimulating ideas, issues and stellar performances.

The cast includes the magnificent Tom Fiscus as the complex Galileo, Conrad Wrobel, Matthew Laslo-White, Frank Michels, Audra Goffeney, Steve Henigson, Michael Armenia, Bob Littlewood, Pat Littlewood, Elane Phipps, Christian Bailey, and Freddy Hinkle playing multiple roles all with clarity, passion and fascinating character choices.
