OIHS Environmental Club Leads Charge on Composting Sustainability
Students in Orcas Island High School’s Environmental Club want to make an impact that goes beyond the classroom.
Club members are exploring composting as an opportunity to foster a generation of students who are passionate about sustainability, and committed to making a positive impact on the environment.

Spring is just around the corner and we’ll be offering two home composting classes at The Grange – Friday, May 9th at 5pm; and Saturday, May 10th at 2pm.
Policy Update: Aluminum Pet Food Cans Are OK!
Minor update for our cat loving customers–we have confirmed that it is OK to recycle aluminum pet food cans with aluminum beverage containers.
Might seem obvious, but there was some concern about the plastic linings in some of these cans. But no Longer!
One thing is certain though: make sure the cans are aluminum, and rinsed well before you drop them off.

Wanted: Part-time Event Coordinator
ORS’s Zero Waste Committee is looking for a part-time Event Coordinator. Ideally with experience running and promoting events but most importantly willing to be trained and cultivates a high level of curiosity and follow through. Seeking candidates inspired by educating about Zero Waste and help develop programming and execute ideas. Basic Social Media skills are important. Starting pay $28/hr (more based on experience).
