Looking for a little Christmas cheer mixed with glitter, flesh colored pantyhose, and a supreme bikini wax job? This Friday, the Orcas premiere of “Land of the Sweets: The Burlesque Nutcracker” is coming to the Seaview Theater. “’Land of the Sweets” is a spectacle of ecdysiastic pageantry, and has delighted holiday revelers since 2006 by giving the Nutcracker ballet a bawdy makeover!” noted the Seattle P.I.
One evening this last summer, Orcas Islanders packed into the old seats of Seaview Theater for an evening of burlesque by The Atomic Bombshells—a playful and provocative troupe from Seattle. Orcas audiences loved the interactive and sensual manifestation.
The principal cast for Land of The Sweets includes, Lily Verlaine (Countess of Coffee,) Jasper McCann (Charles Drosselmingus,) Miss Indigo Blue (The Sugar Plum Fairy,) gender blending Waxie Moon (King of Rats,) Babette La Fave (The Swingin’ Tree,) and more.
“The show has become a much-anticipated Seattle tradition and I hope that it becomes an annual tradition on your magical island as well!” Lilly Verlaine pointed out.
Land of the Sweets has been brought to the island by the Barnacle, The Kitchen, Goldentree Hostel, and Smith & Speed Mercantile. Tickets are $33 and on sale at these businesses or online at www.strangertickets.com. Doors open at 8 p.m.
