A forum on Teens and the Law will be presented April 28th, 6:30 p.m. at Orcas Middle School Cafeteria in Eastsound.
Parents, students ages 10-18 and the public are invited to a community forum led by panelists Randy Gaylord, County Prosecuting Attorney, Sargent Steve Vierthaler, San Juan County Sheriff’s Department; Michael Mele, licensed psychotherapist with Clear Path Counseling and Michael Jennings, County Juvenile Probation Officer.
Topics will include information about risky behaviors as signposts for potential problem behaviors that can result in legal consequences and the “anatomy” of an arrest.
Panelists will also present information about the consequences and enforcement of laws related to juvenile misbehavior, underage drinking, driving under the influence and drug use and possession, the underlying psychological stress and trauma for juvenile offenders and its effects on family dynamics and long term (juvenile) treatment and the effects of having a record.
Ample time will also be given for questions and answers.
