Benefit for The Giving Tree to be held Saturday September 29 on the Eastsound Village Green

Hot time promised at Orcas Chili Cookoff.

Red beans vs. black beans, beef vs. chicken … the competition among the 10 teams competing at the First  annual Eastsound Chili Cookoff  to benefit the Giving Tree will be smoking hot. Attention, area chili cooks and lovers, it’s time to come on out and vote for The First Annual 2012 Eastsound Chili Cook-Off Champion.

This inaugural Cook-Off event is one of what organizers hope will become one of Eastsound’s most anticipated events. This event is considered a “cook- off,” with balloting and 1st-3rd places awarded in each category. All champions will be voted by event attendees.   This is a true people’s choice competition.

The Cook-Off will be held on the Eastsound Village Green on Saturday, September 29th, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  For the entry fee of $10 each attendee will receive a tasting portion of chili from each of the 10 participating entrants.   Some of the teams to beat come from The Island Market Meats Department, Maple Rock Farm, The Orcas Island Fire Department and Island Hardware and Supply.

The Orcas island Lions, Kiwanis, Orcas Family Connections and the Orcas Island Farmers Market are teaming up in organizing this great event to support the Giving Tree.  The Giving Tree is a program which helps to provide holiday gifts for island children and teens who may not have otherwise have received them.

Come on out and enjoy some unbelievably tasty chili, enjoy entertainment, have a cold beverage and support this worthwhile cause.  Tickets will be sold Saturdays at the Farmers Market and on Sundays at Island Market.  Tickets will also be available on event day.
Questions or if you need additional ticket or if you just want to pitch in and help  please call Jim Biddick, Orcas Island Lions Club at 376-2488 or Jennifer Pietsch Orcas Island Farmers Market Manager at 317-8342.
