On Saturday, July 9, a full house enjoyed Historic Tales of Olga, told by Tom Welch.

He described early area settlement as well as stories of a pet bear cub from the Olga Hotel escaping to grow into a 1000 pound fright; a dying Haida princess rescued by an Olga man, then settled to raise nine children; and the likelihood that ice age Puget Sound water was low enough to allow foot travel between islands.

More intriguing tales were shared by Tom while long-time local residents added their special knowledge of the area.

Tom Welch will be presenting more Historic Tales of Olga on Saturday, July 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Olga Energetics Club.

Everyone welcome. Donations accepted.

This event is offered by the Olga Strawberry Council which is charged with preservation of the Historic Strawberry Processing Plant. The Council endeavors to support local artists, art education and to preserve the history of Olga area culture.
