— from Mandy Troxel —
On October 7, Nelson “Nels” Moulton suffered a brain bleed and was airlifted off island to care. He is now in Seattle undergoing rehabilitation for the physical challenges that resulted from the incident while waiting for the bleed to heal enough to explore diagnosis and next steps.
Nels is a long way from returning to his island home. Everyone on “Team Nels” is determined to work towards a complete recovery. Recovery will take one year or more, and elements of care will require maintenance for the rest of his life. The number of un-insured costs in this process are extensive.
Nels, his wife Cathy Faulkner and their 10-year-old son Trevor have given their time and energy in countless ways to our community. Here is our chance to give back in their time of need. Checks can be made to Cathy Faulkner and sent to Salish Electric at PO Box 1502, Eastsound, WA 98245. There is also a basket at the OPAL office (286 Enchanted Forest Rd) for well wishes, checks or gift cards (think Family Tree Chiropractic, Ray’s, Healing Arts Center, Island Market, Orcas Co-op, Pawki’s, or Costco, Amazon, Gas and Coffee!)
In addition, there is currently a crowdfunding campaign underway at GiveForward.com(search “Nels”). Monetary donations are much appreciated. You can also click the “support” button to send words of encouragement and be added to the email list for updates. On Facebook, there is a group that has been an uplifting forum for friends to post text and video messages for Nels, and for receiving day-to-day updates on Nels’ improvement (search “Join Cathy and Nels”).
Through all the ups and downs of the past month, Cathy notes, “The constant support, prayers, vibes, financial support and help is holding us up. Thank you for providing a firm foundation of love and support for us.” All of us at “Team Nels” thank you for joining us on Nels’ Road to Recovery!
